Welcome to Armstrong class Miss Daltrey is our teacher and Mrs Storey is our Teaching Assistant!

Welcome to Year 4. Our teacher is Miss Daltrey and Mrs Storey is our teaching assistant.

Our topic for Autumn 1 is ‘1066’ where we will be learning all about King Edward’s death and the 4 claimants to the English throne. We will be delving into key battles during 1066, such as The Battle of Stamford Bridge and The Battle of Hastings, and linking these events to the Bayeux Tapestry.

During English, we shall be writing historical narratives and settings based on the story of The Tiny Crusader. We will also be writing recounts linked to the Bayeux Tapestry and writing, reciting and performing poetry linked to well known tunes.

During Maths in Autumn 1, our topics are negative numbers, using place value to support counting up and down in multiples of 6, 7, 9, 25 and 100s, using a formal written method for addition and subtraction, and estimating. We will also be classifying and comparing quadrilaterals and triangles and converting between analogue and digital time. We will be focusing on problem solving throughout all topics and developing reasoning skills.

Our science topic for Spring 1 is ‘Animals including Humans’. We will be describing the simple functions of the digestive system in humans, identifying the different types of teeth and what their simple functions are, and we shall be constructing and interpreting a variety of food chains.
